As I entered the fun Humanities classroom, another literature circle would be starting soon. I was extremely happy, I loved the discussions! The reason that I loved them was because of the book, and my great group. My group contains me, Abby, Juanita and Hyo Jin. The reason that I enjoy the book so very much is because of the rising action, when you think you've reached the climax, another fascinating event happens, which makes you think that thats the climax. I waited for Abby and Hyo Jin, me and Juanita were a bit early. We shared our thoughts on how "awesome" the book was. Mrs. Narsiman had just announced that class had begun. Unfortunately Abby lost her discussion sheet, so she just had to sit and listen. The good news was that Hyo Jin and Juanita were prepared, so I was satisfacted with my group. I worked very hard on my discussion sheet, it usually takes me about 30-45 minutes to complete it, sometimes longer. But its worth it, because everytime so far, I've gotten an A+. When Hyo Jin came, our discussion could really begin! "Now..." I thought to myself, "IS TIME FORE THE AWESOME-NESS!!!" (excuse my lack of words.)
As we started to discuss our passages, I was up first, then Juanita and then Hyo Jin. Just like the other literature discussions, things kept on getting better and better. Juanita's passage was very interesting because she presented the information logically. Hyo Jin's was very good because she had put a lot of thought into it. Mine I think was a bit funny because Juanita and Hyo Jin laughed at parts. After somebody read a passage, we would discuss why it is important. Sometimes we would disagree but we would give our reasons.
Charlotte Doyle has changed a lot since the beginning of the book. At the very beginning, she seemed like a nice, polite child. Who was rich, educated, and seemed a bit snobbish. Now she has become a member of the crew! She works hard, and Captain Jaggery has even put her down as Mr. Doyle. She's also become a tad bit rude, because she insults Captain Jaggery, quite a few times. Although he does deserve it. Charlotte has changed her opinion about the ship. At the beginning of the novel, she was thinking what a dump it was, now, she is so used to it and she appreciated it as well.
Captain Jaggery has changed so dramatically! At the very begginning when his character was introduced he seemed polite, and a true gentleman. He seemed to care for what people thought, but now...... (well think of the tune duh-duh-dunnnnn) Captain Jaggery, well, Captain Jaggery, I despise him. He is pure evil, and the crew cannot escape from his evil clutches of horror. Which is truly sad for them, Captain Jaggery whips people (I bet he enjoys it) and he gets mad at children, insulting them, telling them that they deserve horse whippings. Captain Jaggery insulted Charlotte very badly, she was even on her knees crying.
I have a question for this book. At the very beginning of the book, it warns you of how Charlotte has murdered someone. But we have gone halfway through the book, and guess what? The only person who has murdered anybody was Captain Jaggery. But he murdered two people. When will Charlotte murder a human? (Ants don't count, okay?)
Overall, this was an excellent discussion! I enjoyed it, perhaps a bit too much, but it was so much fun! Can't wait until next Tuesday!!
