Charlotte Doyle Discussion Meeting (the second) was amazing. It was a lot of fun. It was fun because everybody shared their ideas and its interesting because everybody had different ideas. It was pretty cool because we knew what to do. I got an A+ again, luckily this time it wasn't posted on Moodle. ^_^!!!!!!!! Later into the discussion, we (Hyo Jin, me, Juanita and Abby) became very serious and started discussing the book dramatically. It was spectacular! I love sharing my ideas and listening to theirs was fascinating.
My important passage that I'm choosing is my second one. Its one page 46, when Zachariah tells Charlotte that Captain Jaggery has beaten Mr. Cranick so badly that he only has one arm. I chose this passage because its a very important event in the story. It shows Captain Jaggery's true character, cruel, evil and pure meaness is in his soul. What kind of "good" man would beat somebody? Beat somebody so very badly that he has only one arm? Any good man/person would never do that to anybody. Even if they really did deserve it. I don't know if Mr. Cranick did deserve it but even if he did, Captain Jaggery must have beaten him very badly if he only has one arm now. In my first Literature Discussion, I thought that Zachariah was an old man trying to abuse Charlotte. Now my thoughts have changed dramatically on Zachariah. This page also shows Zachariah's character, kind and worrying of others. He was warning Charlotte to beware of Captain Jaggery. Charlotte didn't believe him because she thought that Captain Jaggery was a good-hearted man. When my group (and me) were discussing this, they pretty much agreed with me. We thought the same things, and shared our opinions on this. We all didn't think Zachariah was so bad anymore, actually we now all think that he was a nice person. Zachariah is way better than Captain Jaggery in many ways. Captain Jaggery beats up people and I don't think that Zachariah would beat up anybody. Captain Jaggery also thinks too highly of himself, he's so full of himself that he doesn't even realize the hatred the crew has for him. I mean, seriously, it doesn't take a genious to figure that one out. Obviously Captain Jaggery is NO genious. Zachariah trys to warn Charlotte about Captain Jaggery so he cares for others, Captain Jaggery would probably panic and save his own life.
My understandings only changed a bit because we pretty much agreed on everything. However, they did change. When we were "discussing" with my group, (Hyo Jin, me, Juanita and Abby) even though we thought of the same things, their details were different. So that changed my opinion and understanding of the book. Because when all of those details are added up together, it makes a huge blob of knowledge.
In this discussion, I leart how to Reason Critically and Communicate Effectively and Collaborate Contructively. The first literature discussion was like a test because we were all thinking and experimenting what to do. Now I feel like an expert. When I think back to the second literature discussion, I think that we (Abby, me, Hyo Jin and Juanita) did a spectacular job of getting our ideas out. Truly marvelous!!! We all Communicated Effectively. My insightes (undrstanding of a complex situation) hadn't really changed much, I basically thought the same things, just with more descriptions and details, a clearer picture formed inside my mind.
I am so excited fot the third literature circle!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
