Charlotte Doyle Reflection/Feedback

1. Did you like the book? Why/Why not?
Of course I loved this book! I loved this book so much because it had so much action in it! For example : when Charlotte got locked in the jail cell for "murdering" Mr . Hollybrass. She actually didn't murder Mr . Hollybrass and it was Captain Jaggery who murdered Mr . Hollybrass. The ending of the book was magnificent! Charlotte ran away from her family and decided to go back to the ship! At first Zachariah was saying "Who is it?" repeatedly, but then Charlotte had told him that it was her and she was coming home! That means that she considers the ship as her new home! That part made me feel really happy! She's found her true place in the world, and she actually enjoys doing hard work and labor! She decides that the crew and the ship is more important to her than her own family. If I were Charlotte I would have made the same choice because her family isn't that great. Her father is very much like Captain Jaggery and her brother and sister are fairly annoying. Her mother is alright but very quiet so I wouldn't even notice her (most likely). But if I were in Charlotte's position I couldn't ever leave my family!!! I would miss my Mother way too much! Also I would miss my Father's jokes. I would even miss Sammie (my little sister) because she's always hyper and filled with energy!
2. What was your favorite part?
My favorite part of the whole entire book would be the last few chapters. The last few chapters is when Charlotte goes "home" to her house. But for Charlotte it wasn't very pleasent to live with her family. Her Father was very strict and burned her diary. He also sent her to her room for days just to study. That is very harsh. Her Mother seemed alright but too quiet. Her brother and sister were very annoying and they called her an Indian. Charlotte decides to leave her family and go to her true home the Seahawk. She goes there and meets Zachariah. Charlotte then tells him that she has come home! That part was very emotional because it shows Charlotte's love for the crew and the Seahawk!
3. What do you think the message of the story was?
I think the message of the story is to do what you feel is right. In other words listen to your heart. If you feel something is wrong, don't do it, or avoid the situation. Charlotte thought Captain Jaggery was a good guy at the beginning of the book even though Zachariah warned her that he was bad. She followed her heart and went to visit him every once in a while. Charlotte knew that her heart belonged to the crew and the Seahawk so she left her family to go back!
4. How did you like the Literature Circles assignment? What suggestions would you make to improve it?
The Literature Circle assignment was awesome! I loved it so much! I had an amazing group, and almost all of us did our task! The Literature Circle assignment was fun because it let you write down your thoughts on the book. It wasn't like an essay, it was like a reflection. You look back and remember/decide which parts of the book is really important and write it down. Then you write your emotions along with that. It would be really hard to improve Literature Circle assignment because it is already so great! But I have one tiny thing to say! We should have Literature Circle's more often! Mrs . Narsiman (my Humanities teacher) says we only have it once a year! I wish we could have it two or three times a year.
5. After talking with your classmates, which of the novels that you did not read, would you like to read next?
If I had to choose one of the books to read next I think I would choose Julie of the Wolves. After talking to Kat and Megan about Julie of the Wolves, it seems very interesting. Julie gets married really young and she runs away to live with wolves. My friends wouldn't tell me much since they didn't want to give the important bits of the story away, so now I'm curious for what will happen in that book. I'm not sure but I think that Miyax and Julie are the same person. So I wonder why she has two names! I guess I will have to read the book to find out!
