Please free Aung San Suu Kyi...
I disagree completely with this. To me Aung San Suu Kyi is no hero, to me a hero is someone who considers family first. Aung San Suu Kyi chose her country over her family, some people think this is heroism, but if I were her children I would have been dissapointed in my Mother. To a child without a Mother you would miss out on so much. Your Mother is the one who can take care of you, without my Mom I know I would be a completely different person. If I lost my Mom now I would be dissapointed. I know I wouldn't leave my family even if a country was depending on me, my Mom said she wouldn't either. Maybe this is the greater force in Aung San Suu Kyi, or maybe she didn't love her family enough? Anyway, the only one who knows the answer to that is herself.
I can see why people think Aung San Soo Kyi is a hero, if I was Burmese maybe I would as well. She is these people's saviour, but sometimes I wonder if the people of Burma ever feel selfish, I mean they did (in a way) steal her away from her family. Yet, that was her descision, she chose to be in house arrest. And I think it is really wrong for Burma's government to not even let her family be with her. If I heard that I would leave and go to my family, but maybe I'm not mentally as strong as Aung San Suu Kyi.
I do respect Aung San Soo Kyi, I respect her for being by herself all these years, and even though her husband died, she didn't get to go to her funeral. I suppose Aung San Soo Kyi is a good woman, but she is no hero of mine. A hero is someone you should look up to, follow their footsteps. And I just don't ever see myself leaving my family.
