How is Will just like you?

- Will is the main character of the book The White Mountains. The book is about people getting capped at the age of fourteen when they become a "man". My reason for them being capped is because at the age of fourteen they are starting to wonder, "Why should I go and get capped? Why can't I be free? What is the purpose of this?" . They cap mostly boys because usually boys are a little bit more disobedient and they wonder about life, robotics, science and more! When girls get capped its most likely the girls who are disobedient and curious. OH I'M SORRY! I forgot to explain what capped meant! Well there are some tripods in this world (this world is hundreds of years into the future, I'm assuming the year of 3500-5500) and they come to "cap" people. That means that they abduct the child/man who is the right age, and the take him into themselves, shave their head, and put a metal ring (the cap) on their head. The cap is hooked up with their brain so the tripods pretty much control what they are thinking. I definitely don't want to be capped! I'm no expert but I'm guessing that being capped hurts, and its a very frightening experience.



Will is similar to me because we both have a great fear of being capped. We would rather be free and go to The White Mountains where you don't have to be capped because tripods go to lower lands and not mountains. I would rather die than be capped, because when you are capped, you are pretty much DEAD. You can't think for yourself anymore so you don't even count as YOU. I don't want to be capped because there is always a chance that you could become a vagrant. I definitely do not want to be a vagrant because their whole lives are basically ruined. Its like they were born with mental issues. They can't think straight and people avoid them. Vagrants are outcasts. I think that people become vagrants because they see what is inside of the tripods. My literature circle group and I were discussing the possibility of when you enter the tripods they blindfold you so you won't see whats inside of them. But the vagrants maybe saw so the tripods made them be crazy on purpose. Which is evil! Will also seems quite stubborn since he always gets into fights with his cousin, Henry. Henry and Will are both stubborn and fight a lot with each other. When I say fight I don't mean verbally, I mean physically. Will also seems a bit different from everybody else, isolated. Sometimes I feel that way as well. Nobody does really understand you, and you feel like you have no friends.



I am also like Will because we are both quite gullible and innocent. Will is gullible because when Ozymandias comes and tells Will the tales of ..... well, everything, Will believes him immediately. If I were will I would have done that too. I think that I would do that because I just don't really realize that people lie, I don't understand why they have to. Because what exactly is the point of it? You get nothing good, and in the end, it makes everybody feel terrible. Its pretty obvious to why I am innocent, I'M STILL A CHILD. Will is also very similar to me because he is very smart/intelligent. He seems to think/analyze everything before he does something, or says something. He isn't outgoing, he seems very shy until you get to know him, that is just like me as well. I'm super shy when I first meet someone. But once I get to know them, I'm noisy and not shy at all! That's the good thing about shy people, once you get to know them better, they are the most fun! The reasons why Will and I are not the same is..... well he is a boy, and I'm a girl. I'm not very disobedient and I ALWAYS listen to my Mother and the teachers. I never get into physical fights with anybody. Sometimes my sister and I will get into a little verbal fight, but nothing more. We have an okay relationship. We rarely even fight, but Henry and Will seem to fight everytime they even see each other. I wonder why they started to hate each other SO much. I'm also not like Will because I don't think I would go to The White Mountains alone. I would be much too frightened.
